Mental health across the pond

Shift is England’s initiative to tackle the stigma around mental health in society and its counterpart in Scotland is called See Me. Both sites feature a number of excellent videos that highlight particular issues. Shift has worked with the producers of the BBC series The Office and has made several videos available via their YouTube channel. See Me features some of their TV and radio ads used in previous campaigns.

In addition to educational advertising, See Me has a pledge program to get people involved and Shift connects via multiple social media, including Facebook, Flickr & FriendFeed. Shift also posts on Twitter, which is featured on the left side of this site.

Each organisation takes a slightly different approach in engaging society but both use as many ways as possible to get their message across.

As we develop our own site, we’d like to know what media and messages might work here in Canada to get mental health out of the shadows and discussed openly in our workplaces. Ideas are always appreciated.
